THE LONG STORY (Playful Bio)

Pina Berlin is a singer-songwriter soul who was set free in the magical musical air of Berlin. Pina Berlin is the ever-searching alter ego of the multi-faceted musician Pinar Tatlikazan, who was born in Bursa, raised in Istanbul, and has been living in Berlin since 2010. It is the solo project of the singer songwriter after singing and playing in different bands in Berlin through the years. And 10 years after she moved from Istanbul to Berlin finally Pina Berlin was born and she finally released her debut album with two music videos and many short videos and recently finished the release tour with her band. The dream came true but new dreams and songs are already in the works...

She started off with memorizing Ella Fitzgerald and Chet Baker solos and singing/dancing while MTV was running when she was a little girl, Pina sang in the Rock/Jazz bands of her school and built her voice with a classical training with Tülay Uyar from 2007 to 2010. She took classes with Cathy Hole at the Jazz Department of the University of Massachusetts in Amherst (US) and workshops with Sheila Jordan after which she started to prepare for the music schools in Germany with the StuVo in Berlin where she worked with Andreas Schmidt, Martina Gebhardt and participated in workshops of Celine Rudolph and many other great singers and treachers.

After exploring different genres with her bands "Savoir Vivre" (vocalist at Gypsy Jazz Collective), "S-Bahn'a Bin" (vocalist in the türkish jazz band) "Brass Kartoffeln" (Tenor saxophone in the Brass Band), singing background vocals to the studio albums of rock bands "Radiorgasmo" and "Las flores Molestas" and paving the stages of Berlin's jam sessions she got influenced by multiple genres from jazz to world music, from tango to rock, from folk to oldies, from brasilian music to oriental rhythms and psychedelic vibes. Standing on stage since she was 10 years old with the school theater, her passion for the direct contact to her listeners and the storytelling never ceased.

Hungry to accompany herself she started to play a ukulele in 2013 and ever since she has been writing her own songs and has been recording ideas for the arrangements on her phone in the bathroom of her dayjob. She says, she had the urge to realize this dream of recording her songs before she turns 30 and before she'd maybe want to start a family. And with this urge in 2019 she started to search for musicians to play her music with to get the sound in her head that she couldn't create with the ukulele and saxophone only. Finally in 2020 she started working with the producer Fico Jessen to record her debut album! While recording she was also planning a stage design for the concerts after the release coming up in the spring of 2021. Her time in the architecture school awoke her need and inspiration to combine the musical experience with the visual space, which she first realized with her masters thesis on the perception of the public spaces through the interaction of visual and aural elements. She just wants to reach all the human senses all at one time to get her music under your skin, make her music a holistic experience and make her audience feel!

Her unconventional path to music saw her initially disguised as an architecture student in Berlin, leading a double life until facing burnout and the onset of fibromyalgia, which prompted her to fully embrace her musical calling. After nights of questioning her life choices, feeling like in the wrong movie in the corporate life. Music as hobby wasn't enough. Finally choosing music thanks to her body and illness pushing her, she never looked back.

Pina is now working on recording new songs and expanding her artistic vision further by studying Music & Movement / Rhythmic at UdK with a major in Jazz Vocal to explore the ways to bring the musical and movement performances together in an experimental and improvisation based field.

This colorful dream world of sounds promises a moment for yourself to go into your heart, to feel the sexy shaking through your body or to feel inner tears with her ballad, but still at the end of the song you will feel the hope and positivity that leaves one with a spark of light in one's heart.
